Swimming

Unlike other sports, swimming engages every muscle group and energy system! Swimming improves flexibility, range of motion, and functional strength in the water. This leads to improved core strength and mobile stability in all your joints, as well as stronger muscles and improved motor skills.
Byw’n Iach offers a variety of swimming sessions across the county, in 7 different centres; Arfon, Bangor, Glaslyn, Dwyfor, Bro Ffestiniog, Penllyn and Bro Dysynni.
Children’s Lessons We follow the Welsh Swimming Learning Framework in order to offer high quality and professional swimming lessons to the children of Gwynedd. Our swimming lessons make sure that ALL children learn to swim regardless of their ability or needs. The swimming lessons are available in 7 centres: Arfon, Bangor, Bro Dysynni, Bro Ffestiniog, Dwyfor, Glaslyn, Penllyn This is an information pack for the swimming lessons offered at Byw’n Iach: Swimming Lessons Pack Adult Swimming Lessons Of all the life skills worth learning, swimming is one of them. Not only could it save your life, but it’s great for helping your physical and mental wellbeing. You’ll be surprised how easy and fun swimming is once you start! Here is an information pack about the framework of the swimming lessons: Info Pack Swimming Lessons for Children with Additional Needs Our swimming lessons for children with additional needs are taught in small groups (maximum of 4) giving the teacher the opportunity to adapt the lesson so that everyone has the opportunity to learn and develop. Our teachers are aware that everyone needs to be treated as an individual and that there are different needs when learning to swim. It is possible for a parent to go be in the water to support the child if necessary. Our teachers will show children how to move in the water and teach joint movement skills which help with physical skills outside the pool. We focus on the child’s ability and give them a choice and opportunity to develop through play, as well as focusing on the core skills needed to learn to swim. In order for teachers to succeed it is essential that we get as much information as possible about the child. State any needs you have at the center’s reception, and we will treat this information confidentially. See when the session is at your center here: Timetable
Free Swimming was first launched in Wales in 2003. This was the first national free swimming program in Wales. The goal? Getting more young people (16 and under) and people over 60 to learn to swim and swim more regularly.
