Plas Menai and Byw’n Iach Team Win Swimming Impact and Water Safety Award!

We are so proud of the team for being recognised at the Swim Wales Annual Awards 2024/25! Through collaboration between the Plas Menai and Byw’n Iach teams, we have won the Swim Wales Learn to Swim Impact and Water Safety Award for delivering the Nofio Diogel Cymru (Safe Swimming Wales) programme so effectively at the centre and across North Wales.

This is a testament to the hard work of the team, including Dyfed, Tom, Ollie, and Gavin, along with the invaluable input of both teams. The sessions were held for some Primary Schools in Gwynedd, including Ysgol Godre’r Berwyn, Ysgol OM Edwards, Ysgol Bro Idris, and Ffridd y Llyn in Glan Llyn. Ysgol Hirael, Ysgol Hendre, and Ysgol Gwaun Gyfni took part in Plas Menai, while Ysgol Cymerau and Ysgol Yr Eifl benefited from the scheme at Plas Heli.

Justin Everley, Head of Centre At Plas Menai said:

“Swim Safe is a project that we have been involved with from the start and pairing up with Byw’n Iach on delivery has seen the project grow and develop at Plas Menai and other sites around Gwynedd. The award recognises the hard work of all involved and ensures the continuation of this work to continue to deliver Swim Safe for years to come.”

The programme is managed nationally by the RNLI and Swim Wales to teach young people essential skills on how to stay safe in open water. Thanks to the efforts of Legacy Leisure, Byw’n Iach, and Urdd, these sessions were delivered completely free of charge to schools.

A huge thank you to all the schools and staff who attended, as well as our fantastic partners for their support. We are a very happy team!

“This recognition reflects our commitment to ensuring children learn vital water safety skills. We are extremely proud of the positive impact this project has had on the community.”

Our plan is to continue the project over the coming months, giving a new group of children the opportunity to learn open water safety skills. Keep an eye on our social media!
